Baristas are first and foremost the representatives of Gravity and our values. Day-to-day, our baristas provide customer service, take orders, make coffee, tea, and other drinks to the customer’s satisfaction, operate the cash register, field customer complaints and questions, as well as maintaining a clean and stocked café. It is important to us that our baristas keep up our high standards for customer relations.
We believe that investing in our employees, their happiness and potential, leads to a better business. We offer in-depth training as well as having regular one-on-one meetings each semester with our employees.
We require 6-15 hours dependent on your availability each week. Schedules are set for the entire semester. No previous barista experience is required, but we prioritize applicants who have some food/restaurant experience. Our baristas are classified as hourly, tipped employees with a pay rate of $9.54 per hour plus tips (with a guarantee of making at least $12.56). Baristas also receive other benefits such as; free drinks while working, discounts on products, and other optional team opportunities.
Our Hiring Process
The cafe's work schedule is typically finalized during the first week of classes and remains the same throughout the rest of the semester. This means we do two windows of hiring - one in July for the fall semester and one in December for the spring semester.
